Eta Zeta - Anchor Slam 2014

Eta Zeta Chapter of Delta Gamma
University of Chicago

Greetings from the sisters of the Eta Zeta chapter of Delta Gamma at the University of Chicago!  Our chapter, Eta Zeta, is currently planning our major fundraiser, Anchor Slam, to benefit the Delta Gamma Foundation, Service for Sight. This year, we will be holding our fourth annual Anchor Slam on Saturday, May 10, 2014. We would like to thank you in advance for your participation in our major fundraiser to benefit the Delta Gamma Foundation.

Anchor Slam is a campus-wide 3v3 basketball competition that attracts the participation of many different student groups, from the Greek community to athletic, academic, and community service organizations. In addition to Anchor Slam, this year we have also launched our first annual Anchor Week, a series of events that will continue to raise awareness for our Foundation and add an additional fun and competitive element for participating teams in the week leading up to the event.

"Do Good", our motto since 1873, was penned by our founders before the letters Delta Gamma were even chosen. This motto is alive and well in 2014. We hope to continue to uphold this ideal by making Anchor Slam a huge success, and for that reason we hope you will join our cause!

Our VISION is to greatly impact the lives of those in society who are blind or visually impaired. We have also been looking forward to benefiting our members through life enriching educational opportunities as well as merit and need based scholarships and fellowships. More than 100 chapters across the United States and Canada sponsored Anchor Slam or Anchor Splash events last year, enabling the Delta Gamma Foundation to give $174,300 in grants to local and national organizations who share our mission to benefit the blind and visually impaired.

Since 1936, our national philanthropy has been Service for Sight. Delta Gammas across the nation fundraise and volunteer their time (approximately 120,000 hours per year) to assist those who are blind or visually impaired. Four schools for children without sight have been begun by Delta Gammas and still exist to this day. Donations from our fundraising events will help to generate grants to organizations that share our mission. We are making a difference!

Our chapter has partnered with the Chicago Lighthouse, a not-for-profit agency committed to providing the highest quality educational, clinical, vocational and rehabilitation services for the blind and visually impaired. University of Chicago DGs have and continue to volunteer at Lighthouse Christmas parties and luncheons. Furthermore, Eta Zeta chapter members volunteer at the Princeton Eye Clinic in Chicago every Friday and assist with eye exams and other clinical work. We are very committed to our foundation and our cause and hope to make this year's Anchor Slam the most successful ever to continue to contribute to Service for Sight.

Please accept our gratitude in advance for any donation that you make. The Delta Gamma Foundation is, by law, a 501C3 entity and your gift is tax deductible. The Delta Gamma Foundation also accepts matching gifts for your tax deductible contribution.

Thank you and together we will “Do Good.”
